The giant in the worldwide data communications equipment business has to be Cisco Systems (CSCO). The growth in data usage by smart connected devices is a bullish trend for Cisco. It is interesting to explore just how quickly data usage is growing and where that growth is coming from.

The recent successful launch of the iPhone 5S and a comment by Tim Cook that NetMarketShare data show that Apple (AAPL) devices are used more extensively that those of competitors made me wonder if Apple's dropping market share was going to limit the growth of the market for data communications equipment. The comment by Tim Cook pointed to data from NetMarketShare, which claimed that 55% of mobile traffic was on devices using iOS versus only 28% for those using Android. Cook relies on that statistic for his view that people use their iPhones and IPads more often than those who use Android devices.

While Tim Cook's comment made me think that demand for Cisco products might be tied somewhat to the success of Apple, more reliable data suggest that is not likley to be the case.

LONDON -- The shares of�Balfour Beatty� (LSE: BBY  ) rallied 3% to 223 pence this morning after the FTSE 250 mid-cap revealed its order book had grown 5% to 拢16 billion since the start of 2013.

Balfour Beatty, the global infrastructure and construction firm, shocked the market with a profit warning last month. The company confirmed there had been�"no change in performance"�since that update, which caused a 12% crash in Balfour's share price on April 29.

Balfour reported a 23% slump in first-quarter U.K. construction revenues, which the company blamed on fierce regional competition and a shortage of public-sector projects. Total revenue for global construction services declined 11%, with European rail operations also dragging on performance.

After all, since charts are just a reflection of public opinion, and since public opinion is actually rather predictable, the way things appear to be - visually - may actually be the way things are.     Another under-$10 gaming player that's starting to move within range of triggering a major breakout trade is Shanda Games (GAME), which is an online game company in China in terms of the size, diversity of its game portfolio, game revenues and game player base. This stock is off to a strong start in 2013, with shares up by 24%.

    If you take a look at the chart for Shanda Games, you'll notice that this stock has formed a major bottoming chart pattern over the last two months, with shares of GAME finding significant buying interest whenever it's pulled back to around $3.80 a share. Shares of GAME are now starting to trend within range of triggering a major breakout trade above some key near-term overhead resistance levels. Those levels have acted as resistance for GAME for the last two months.

    Market players should now look for long-biased trades in GAME if it manages to break out above some near-term overhead resistance levels at $4.85 to $4.98 a share with high volume. Look for a sustained move or close above those levels with volume that hits near or above its three-month average action of 1.71 million shares. If that breakout triggers soon, then GAME will set up to re-test or possibly take out its 52-week high at $6.42 a share.

    Traders can look to buy GAME off weakness to anticipate that breakout and simply use a stop that sits right below its 50-day at $4.18 a share or below that major support at $3.80 a share. One can also buy GAME off strength once it clears those breakout levels with volume and then simply use a stop that sits a comfortable percentage from your entry point.
