Top 5 Blue Chip Companies To Invest In Right Now

It didn't take long for Ford Motor and the "big shift" to start producing big gains...   Two months ago, I showed you how investors are getting more comfortable with buying stocks that benefit from economic growth. This is an important shift... one that could make you a lot of money over the next 12-24 months.   As longtime readers know, in early 2012, we predicted that money would flock to the safest dividend-paying blue chips, like Wal-Mart, Johnson & Johnson, and Procter & Gamble.   These are the safer, "defensive" names money managers buy when they are wary of the broad market and a struggling economy. We figured their buying interest would lead to a "momentum trade" in dividends.   The prediction was right on. Stable dividend-paying blue chips have soared. Johnson & Johnson climbed from $65 per share to $88 today. Procter & Gamble climbed from $65 per share in mid-2012 to $82 today.

What's next for the global LNG trade?
Going forward, however, the rare drop last year is likely to be an anomaly, with the number of countries participating in the global LNG trade set to grow sharply. This year, BG Group forecasts that the global LNG trade will grow by a modest 5.4 million tons, bolstered by exports from Angola -- where Chevron (NYSE: CVX  ) recently shipped its first cargo from the Angola LNG plant -- and new terminals in Australia, as well as an increase in imports from Singapore and Malaysia, and an offshore facility in Israel.

I became interested into IBM's (IBM) shares ever since Warren Buffett (Trades, Portfolio) bought stock in the company for the first time back in 2011 and he kept on buying shares to this day. Nevertheless, I never found a price point where I would be interested to buy the company's shares until now. After disappointing fourth quarter results came up, IBM's shares took a plunge (the stock is down by 4% since quarterly results were unveiled) leaving the company at an attractive valuation point for a company which is growing its EPS and buying back shares.

As the personal machine business is shrinking, fittings giants like International Business Machines (IBM) and Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) are diversifying into fresher areas to accomplish development. Among the most talked-about markets in IT solutions are digital security and distributed computing. Both these segments have been developing at a brisk pace. IBM and HP, as well as other huge companies such as Oracle and Microsoft are also moving into these markets.

    Briefly in the news
And now let's take a quick look at some of the other stories that shaped our week.

IBM (NYSE: IBM  ) proved mortal on Thursday, missing Wall Street's profit expectations for the first time in ages. Outside of a quarter in 2007 when IBM merely matched analyst bottom-line estimates, IBM managed to keep its impressive streak of beats going until now. BTIG Research initiated coverage of Netflix (NASDAQ: NFLX  ) with a Buy rating and a $250 price target. Some may argue that BTIG is late to the game, since the stock has already tripled from last year's low, but better late than never. Intel (NASDAQ: INTC  ) didn't do itself any favors by missing Wall Street's profit projections. Rival Advanced Micro Devices (NYSE: AMD  ) surpassed expectations, but it still recorded a loss. It was also surprising to hear Intel's CEO tease about lower prices. Folks won't be spending good money on tech if they see prices falling in the near future.

Stocks lost ground on Thursday as consumer spending numbers came in below expectations, and institutional investors sold positions ahead of the end of the second quarter. While the S&P 500 Index (SNPINDEX: ^GSPC  ) ended modestly lower, Bed Bath & Beyond (NASDAQ: BBBY  ) , Tenet Healthcare Corp. (NYSE: THC  ) , and Philip Morris International, (NYSE: PM  ) were the day's worst decliners. The S&P 500 itself lost two points, or 0.1%, to end at 1,957.

The end result of these multiple actions has been an ongoing reduction in smoking rates over the past four decades and tougher times for U.S. tobacco producers such as Altria (NYSE: MO  ) and Reynolds American (NYSE: RAI  ) . In fact, a tough domestic sales climate was one reason Altria decided to spin off its overseas operations into Philip Morris International (NYSE: PM  ) in 2008. By separating its business, the hope was that investors would have a better understanding of the fundamental forces driving Altria and Philip Morris.
